Dry Dock

Our little Ms Prinsendam had to go into an unscheduled Dry Dock in Valletta, Malta to fix the right stabilizer. While we were there for 3 nights and 4 days, they tore apart a lot of the ship and put it back together. At first it was fun to have free reign of the ship and be able to wear jeans and tank tops and shorts and no makeup and do yoga on the bow...but when they turned the air off, it was un-fun. Toilets only worked certain hours, and water too. Our rooms were too stifling to handle...over 80 degrees. During the day we escaped to the city and stayed out as long as we had the energy, but when we came back, none of us slept. The first night I wandered around with Chase and Brooke and our pillows to try to find any cool nook to catch some winks. They eventually fell asleep of pure exhaustion in the library while I worked on our hot air balloon puzzle until 9am when the workers started to pass through. The second night, we heaved our mattresses up 2 flights of stairs to the dressing rooms. We thought the cross breeze between the outside deck doors may be better. It was better, but not great. The third night, we lined up our mattresses side by side by side in the costume locker like little orphans. The light couldn't be turned off, but we did our best to block it with scraps of fabric and at least it was cool enough to fall asleep.
Uncomfortable as those 3 nights were, they made for great memories. Sleepover!
Our view of Malta from the ship

Step 1: Attach tug boat and enter the lock

Step 2: The gate closes and the ship is positioned on underwater blocks

Step 3: Water is drained from the lock and 200 construction workers are busy little bees fixing as much as they can as fast as they can!

Yep, we got flatscreens after this picture!

This is the Lido Buffet in disarray!
