Bergen, Norway

Thanks, Captain, for the delay in leaving Amsterdam, otherwise we would have had a cold, rainy day in Bergen. Instead, we were blessed with sunshine and warm temperatures, making this an absolutely beautiful city nestled in a hill - like a quaint, little storybook village. I heard the population is around 200,000 no, the second biggest city in Norway (after Oslo,) but it definitely felt smaller to me. The houses are painted yellow or white or red, and you hear accordion musicians or small brass bands playing on the streets.

After a quick visit to the fish market to sample the whale sausage, Brooke, Todd and I met up with Joe and Ang in line for the train up the hill where we stopped for a pastry snack and a picture with a troll before our hike. There were dozens of options for (long!) hikes, but we chose a short one around a lake to make it back on the ship in time. What a treasure hunt! The forest was filled with mossy green trees, amber puddles, bridges and ducks. The lake glistened with lily pads and families canoed among them. The weather remained sunny and perfect our whole hike and we felt completely satisfied.

This was the treasure at the end of our hike!
