Ny Ålseund, Norway

The world’s northernmost settled point in the world, inhabited by 30-35 people, all researchers. North pole is always shifting on the ice. 13,000 feet deep. The sun rises and sets once each year! No time zone!

On this chilly summer day, the Entertainment Team took shifts of Polar Bear Patrol. We stood at certain points to keep passengers on the path and out of danger of polar bears! Bright orange coats, Traffic Director aprons and *ahem* no weapon for protection. Apparently the last polar bear sighting was a mere 2 weeks prior so we “had nothing to worry about!” I was actually really hoping to catch a glimpse from a distance, but no cigar. C’est la vie. With not anything to do in the tiny town, I mailed a post card to Mom from the northernmost post office in the world, and called it a day!

Mailing a postcard from the farthest north possible!
